When you look at yourself in the mirror, what are you looking at? Really, what are you looking at?

Now look at your home or building and look at it closely. Most things will look good from afar, but once you inspect closely you will reveal the true condition.
What are you looking for?
Intrusion areas: (teeth) Splits in wood or joint caulking will allow water penetration. Moisture is the leading factor in paint peeling and paint failure.
Growth: (hair & eyebrows) Keeping your house clean is crucial for a long lasting paint job. If you have dirt or mildew accumulating on your painted surface, remove the growth ASAP.
Fading: (shirt) As your paint reaches the end of its surface protection it will start to fade and discolor from nature's elements. This can also cause paint failure if left long enough.
Fading (continued): (shoes) As your paint fades, it loses its cleanability. Think of it like polish on your shoes. When the polish is fresh on the shoes is much easier to clean because the dirt cannot grab to the surface very well. The same applies to fresh paint. Fresh paint will leave you with an easy to clean surface, and a clean surface will extend the life of the paint.
Okay, I think you get the point by now. Your personal maintenance is similar to home or building maintenance, meaning if you don't keep up with it, the attractiveness and protection will fade and the impression you seek will not be portrayed, it may even become unhealthy.
